چکیده

The possibility that an unrelated disease process may alter the reaction to the trichinella skin test was uncovered in the course of an investigation on the incidence of trichinosis. A higher percentage of positive skin reactions to trichinella antigen (18.3 per cent) was obtained in 674 patients with active tuberculosis confined in 3 sanatoria, than was found in 335 patients without tuberculosis (7.2 per cent) studied in 2 general hospitals for shorter periods of time (1). On the other hand, the incidence (18.4 per cent) in 825 patients without active tuberculosis confined in 3 hospitals for mental diseases was almost identical with that found in the sanatoria. This finding suggested that some factor connected with residence in an institution might account for the high incidence. An analysis of positive reactors according to the duration of stay in an institution revealed that the incidence of positive reactions reached a peak at 18 to 29 months; no history suggesting subclinical institutional epidemics was elicited (1). Experiments were undertaken to determine whether positive trichinella skin tests could be produced in the absence of infection by the ingestion of killed trichinae, as in meat rendered noninfectious by cooking inadequate to denature the protein of the parasite. Sensitization was not induced in the animals used for these experiments (2). The possibility of a biologic cross reaction, detectable by skin test, between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Trichinella spiralis was investigated in rabbits infected with trichinae and a bovine strain of tubercle bacilli simultaneously. No cross reaction was detected in these rabbits by skin tests (3). The present experiments were undertaken to determine whether a biologic cross reaction de-

A Comparison of Two-Step Tuberculin Skin Test between Health-Care Workers and Nonhospital Employees

Background: The tuberculin test is widely used to identify tuberculosis infection. Some individuals infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis may have an initial negative skin test reaction to tuberculin. The two step purified protein derivative skin test can decrease misinterpretation of tuberculin test .This study was aimed at comparing the two- step tuberculin skin test and booster phenomenon...

QuantiFERON-TB Gold and Tuberculin Skin Test for the Diagnosis of Latent Tuberculosis Infection in Children

Background: Appropriate diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) play the most important role in the control of tuberculosis. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of LTBI among healthy tuberculosis unexposed children vaccinated with BCG using the tuberculin skin test (TST) and QuantiFERON TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) and comparing the agreement between the two tests....

Amelioration of Myogenin, Bcl-2 expression and DNA damages in myocytes of Trichinella spiralis-infected mice after immunization with gamma radiation-attenuated larvae

Background: In trichinosis, the presence of muscle larvae inside skeletal striated muscle causes loss of identity and function of myotube through the releasing of myogenin and myosin. Considering the dominant role of vaccination, research on gamma radiation-attenuated vaccine has very promising value. The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of vaccination with radiation-attenuated ...

THE DETECTION OF Mycobacterium tuberculosis BY PCR IN SPUTUM SAMPLES FROM LONG-TERMTREATED LEPROSY PATIENTS: ASSOCIATIONS WITH SKIN TEST RESULTS AND IMMUNOTHERAPY WITH Mycobacterium vaccae

As part of a series of investigations at Baba Baghi Leprosarium in lran, 44 long-treated leprosy patients were selected for our study. Samples of early morning sputum were obtained from each patient, examined by microscopy for acid-fast bacilli (AFB), and cultured for tubercle bacilli. These tests were negative, but the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for an insertion sequence believed to b...
